Catering Assistant
Yarl’s Wood IRC – Clapham
Full time – 40 hours per week, 3 on, 3 off – 7am to 7pm.

- £23,860.00
- £25,000.00 depending on experience plus Serco benefits

Serco is looking for a dedicated Catering Assistant to join our team at Yarls Wood Immigration centre.
In this role, you will play a vital part in ensuring that residents and staff receive nutritious, well-prepared meals while maintaining high standards of hygiene, safety, and customer service.

Main Accountabilities:
- To assist the Head Chefs and Chefs in the delivery of catering services to the establishment as per Home Office & Serco catering standards.
- To assist the above in ensuring Health and Safety and Food Hygiene Regulations are strictly observed and controlled.
- To ensure the security and food safety of all foodstuffs are maintained during delivery, storage and distribution within the establishment. Food waste is disposed of and recycled via approved methods.
- To prepare and cook varied and healthy menus for detainees to include special diets, special day and religious events as directed by the Head Chef.
- To record and document all relevant paperwork to comply with food hygiene regulations, HACCP and company policies.
- To perform random Quality Checks on serveries’ before, during and after mealtimes where required.
- To train for and carry out any other work reasonably acceptable within the capabilities of the post holder including ordering of all foodstuffs and consumables for all catering services.
- To provide hospitality requirements when ordered by the company.
- To maintain a comprehensive knowledge of Safer Custody, Violence Reduction, Suicide and Self-Harm and Security responsibilities in line with Home Office and local policies by attending refresher training as required in the training calendar.
- To remain conversant and compliant with the Serco Custodial Security Strategy (SCSS) as well as the Local Security Strategy (LSS) for Yarl’s Wood
- To complete incident reports, intelligence reports, Use of Force paperwork and accident reports before leaving duty.
What you will need to do the role:
- Full training given in food safety and haccp.
Essential Experiences:
- Experience of working in a high-pressured catering operation and within tight deadlines.
