Band 7-Clinical Nurse Specialist Fracture Liaison
An exciting opportunity has come up within the Fracture Liaison Service at Barnet Hospital, we are looking for a nurse who has a background or interest in elderly medicine or orthopaedic nursing.
The Clinical nurse specialist is a pivotal part of the multi-disciplinary team that makes up the Fracture Liaison Service. You will work closely with the Consultant and Radiographer to undertake comprehensive assessments and deliver specific treatment recommendations. This is a specialist nurse led service which is aimed to identify patients presenting to Barnet Hospital with a 'fragility fracture' and offers comprehensive assessment and advice to help to avoid future fractures. The service assesses patients over the age of 50 years who have attended hospital with a fragility fracture. This is a unique service; the Clinical nurse specialist is autonomous, you will hold nurse led clinics, make assessments and refer the patient to the appropriate services, provide interface and information with the GP, advising on recommended treatment plans (Bone health), and may follow up patients following the initial assessment.
Main duties of the job
1. Work with elderly patients who have fallen and have fragility fractures.
2. Provide assessment, screening, request for investigations, analyse results and develop treatment plan.
3. Work closely with the consultant.
4. Run clinics and follow up appointments.
5. Interface with GP.
6. Develop the service in line with NICE guidelines and osteoporosis research.
7. Advocate for your patients.
Job responsibilities
1. Facilitate screening and assessment of adults with low impact fractures and other injurious falls.
2. Co-ordinate investigations and treatment options.
3. Liaise with the General Practitioner.
4. Provide expert advice to ward based staff.
5. Ensure all quality initiatives within the osteoporosis and falls service are adhered to and the highest standard of care are maintained at all times.
6. Ensure that access to investigation, evaluation and treatment is timely.
7. Through audit monitor the quality of the service provided.
8. Contribute to a creative and cohesive unified osteoporosis and falls service.
Person Specification
Education & professional Qualifications
* Substantial post-registration experience in area of specialty.
* Evidence of teaching junior members of staff & assessing students in practice.
* Proven evidence of improving the patient experience.
Skills and aptitudes
* Expert specialist skills for the post.
* Knowledge of current advances and pathways of care relevant to specialty.
* Excellent communication skills and ability to negotiate and influence.
* Skilled in use of computer/key board.
* Knowledge of clinical governance issues e.g. handling complaints, clinical risk management.
* Ability to problem-solve, prioritise and to work independently.
* Ability to motivate staff and improve individuals and team performance.
* Ability to develop collaborative working relationships with multi-professional teams.

£51,883 to £58,544 a year per annum inclusive of HCAS.
