The role
The University of Bristol is seeking an Asbestos Compliance officer to help provide support to the Asbestos compliance and contracts manager, in ensuring compliance with all asbestos regulations and help implement an enhanced asbestos management plan across our estate. This role is to help implement asbestos-related statutory compliance contracts, including licensed asbestos surveys and removals, while supporting a cultural shift towards more proactive asbestos management.
What will you be doing?
1. Support in implementing an asbestos management plan to advance safety awareness, overseeing day-to-day contractor management, and coordinating with Campus Division for seamless project handovers.
2. Support in conducting compliance training and toolbox talks for the direct labour force, enhancing awareness and safety in compliance testing.
3. Contribute to quarterly contractor meetings to review KPIs, health and safety incidents, financial matters, and project updates.
4. Monitor and analyse compliance documentation, audits, and asbestos register data to help determine remedial actions; with high priority matters being escalated to senior management as needed.
5. Act as a specialist contact for asbestos management, providing stakeholders with detailed guidance on complex legislation and policy changes.
6. Develop and improve the University’s asbestos register, to help manage both digital and paper-based reporting systems.
You should apply if
1. Certification in asbestos management (e.g., BOHS P402-P404) and substantial experience in asbestos management, including licensed removal, remediation, and waste management.
2. Demonstrated experience in contributing to a digital asbestos register (Micad) and proficiency in the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012.
3. A proven ability to help drive change in asbestos compliance practices, ideally in a large, complex estate or similar environment.
4. Strong experience in conducting risk assessments, developing method statements, and auditing contractor work to ensure regulatory compliance.
5. Exceptional communication skills and the capability to provide clear guidance to project managers and stakeholders regarding asbestos regulations and safe work practices.
