The Morecambe Bay Respiratory Network in conjunction with the Community Respiratory Service, have secured funding until April 2026, to trial a number of new services across Morecambe Bay, including (but not limited to) integrated MDT clinical pathways for chronic respiratory disease management, additional localised pulmonary rehabilitation programs, and specialist home rehabilitation and support, for people with respiratory disease living with high symptom burden who are at high risk of deterioration and urgent care use.
We have up to 1 remaining WTE Nursing post available to support our new Advanced Respiratory Care at Home service across the Bay. This role offers you a permanent contract with our Trust (UHMBT), and a role aligned with the Community Respiratory Service until 31st March 2026. Further funding for us to continue these Respiratory services beyond April 2026, will be dependent on the success of this trial period.

To provide thorough, holistic assessments, clinical examination and co-ordination and delivery of specialist clinical care interventions to patients, to support the palliative care of respiratory symptoms and chronic respiratory disease.
To work closely with the MBRN teams and wider MDT to improve palliative care of respiratory disease acrossMorecambeBay.
To work closely with UHMBT hospitaland communityservice to supporttimelyand safe discharge from hospitalsfor those in the end stages of their respiratory disease, to ensureappropriatehighqualitypalliativecare and enable patient choice for preferred place of care.
To work closely with the MBRN support staffand other members of the ‘high risk’ serviceto measure, audit and evaluate theeffectiveness and impact of theservice,atthe patient and system level, engaging in a cycle of continuous service improvement.
To provide clinical leadership,supervisionand training to the MBRN and wider MDT to support an overall improvement in Palliative care in Chronic Respiratory Disease across Morecambe Bay.

UHMBT Integrated Community Servicesprovidescare outside of the hospital setting, including communitylocationsand people’s own homes.
UHMBT Hospital services operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
