We are looking for an experienced Project Engineer to join our Coastal Risk Management Team at Dorset Council. This is a fantastic opportunity to lead capital projects and support the maintenance of Flood & Coastal Erosion Risk Management (FCERM) and Harbour infrastructure assets. Your work will directly contribute to protecting Dorset’s coastline through projects such as flood walls, erosion protection, beach re-nourishment, and quay wall remediation.
Why join us?
This role offers the chance to expand your skills within a busy FCERM engineering environment, set in the stunning rural landscape of Dorset, close to the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site. You’ll play a key role in ensuring the resilience of our coastal and flood defence infrastructure, contributing to vital climate adaptation and community protection initiatives.
What you’ll be doing
As Project Engineer, you will work within the Coastal Risk Team, part of Dorset Council’s wider FCERM team within Environment and Wellbeing Services. The team is responsible for the delivery and maintenance of flood & coastal protection assets and harbour infrastructure, with the potential to support other council-owned infrastructure projects as needed.
Your Role Will Have Two Primary Focuses
* asset management - ensuring the continued performance, safety, and longevity of key infrastructure.
* project and contract management - overseeing project delivery, procurement, and contract supervision, while fulfilling CDM and ‘intelligent client’ responsibilities.
This role directly supports Dorset Council’s climate and nature crisis response, helping to protect local communities, improve coastal access, and enhance our natural and historic environment. Collaboration is central to our approach, and you may engage with elected council members, stakeholders, and strategic partners to secure the best outcomes for Dorset’s residents.
