Job overview
To be a professional role model, leading and co-ordinating the theatre and department team. This involves managing a wide range of complex and sometimes conflicting priorities for colorectal and urology surgery.
* To provide sound clinical leadership and develop support mechanisms for the team, theatre/department and Trust wide.
* Provide specialist Perioperative advice Trust wide to support and facilitate high quality, individualised care to patients/clients and relatives/carers in collaboration with the multi professional team, in line with the local and national targets.
* At all times ensure that the needs of the patient are placed at the centre of care delivery.
* To be flexible in the approach to the clinical area and provide cover for any area specified.
* To support the Team Manager in delivering the needs of the team/service.
Main duties of the job
* To maintain and promote effective communication with team and all members of the multi-disciplinary team and other departments.
* To demonstrate politeness, courtesy and sensitivity in dealing with patients/clients, visitors/relatives and colleagues, maintaining good customer relations.
* Participate in the Trust's organisational development plans to transform the hospital to meet the needs of future.
* Promote the corporate image of The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust to all individuals, groups and organisations both within the Trust and to the community at large.
* Using specialised knowledge ensure the clinical needs of patients are met.
* To be able to scrub/supervise for colorectal and urology surgical procedures.
* Assess, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of care, actively seeking evidence based practice which will support clinical outcomes as appropriate.
Person specification
* Registered General Nurse or Registered Operating Department Practitioner
* Experience within colorectal and urology surgery
* Leadership skills to manage an operating list and the operating department
* Mentoring/teaching/ supporting the personal and professional growth of the theatre workforce
