Phlebotomy Co-Ordinator

Job overview
We are looking for 2 full-time Phlebotomy Co-Ordinators to improve and provide safe quality care in an ever-expanding workforce across the wider county.
As a Phlebotomy Co-Ordinator, you will supervise and support phlebotomists in your designated area and provide effective first line management and coordination of the service. You will be a fully competent phlebotomist and will be expected to set and maintain high standards of patient care and blood sample collection. You will be working unsupervised, getting support from line managers as appropriate. You will work in various locations across the Trust and in the community supervising the work of blood collection staff.
Main duties of the job
* To co-ordinate, validate the activities of routine blood collection services across outpatient and inpatient areas of the Trust.
* Set and maintain high standards of patient care and blood sample collection.
* To extract blood samples from patients in a manner that makes the blood sample suitable for analytical, therapeutic or diagnostic testing and purpose.
* To effectively manage contingencies that arise during the day-to-day running of phlebotomy services.
* To assist the Phlebotomy Manager to design and deliver the phlebotomy training and induction program.
* To co-ordinate and participate in the training of phlebotomists.
* To participate in people management procedures such as staff recruitment and appraisal and attendance management.
* To prepare and check staff rotas, attendance.
* To co-ordinate the stock and non-stock ordering for phlebotomy.
* To represent the department at meetings, promoting good working relationships across internal and external boundaries, being the first point of contact for phlebotomy for any day-to-day problems that arise.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
* To perform Venepuncture and capillary sampling blood collection procedures.
* To extract blood samples from patients in a manner that makes the blood sample suitable for analytical, therapeutic or diagnostic testing.
* To co-ordinate activities in varied locations e.g. hospital wards, outpatient clinics, community locations.
* To investigate all untoward incidents including patient complaints and make recommendations to reduce the incidence of re-occurrence.
* To be responsible for the health, safety and welfare of yourself and of the patient.
* To ensure Health and Safety procedures are followed by all staff in all areas.
* To ensure that staff are fully conversant with obtaining lawful consent and that consent is obtained in all instances.
* To independently manage own workload and effectively delegate work to others.
* To communicate effectively with patients, relatives and staff of all ages, genders, sexual orientation, cultures or physical abilities.
Person specification
Knowledge & Experience
* Sound knowledge of health and safety
* Mentoring or phlebotomy training experience
* Experience of leading a team
Skills
* Advanced computer skills, ability to use Microsoft packages including Word, Excel, and e-roster
* Managing complaints and queries from patients and staff
* Ability to travel across the county both planned and unplanned when required
* Flexible approach to working day and environment
Education, Training & Qualifications
* 3 years Phlebotomy Experience
* Education: GCSE Maths and English or Equivalent
