We're partnered with a Consultancy in South East London that is currently looking for a skilled and motivated Data Centre Engineer to join their team.
We are seeking an Engineer with expertise in Break/Fix troubleshooting and cabling installation to play a key role in ensuring the efficient and reliable operation of the data centre infrastructure. You will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and supporting the physical infrastructure of the data centre, ensuring uptime and optimal performance.
Due to the nature of the role, you must be comfortable working in data centre environments with temperature-controlled conditions and are able to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends, as needed for maintenance or urgent repairs.
Responsibilities:
* Break/Fix Support:
+ Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair hardware issues, including servers, network devices, and storage systems.
+ Provide timely responses to critical issues and outages, ensuring rapid resolution to minimize downtime.
+ Replace faulty hardware components such as power supplies, CPUs, memory, and network interfaces.
+ Perform preventative maintenance on data centre equipment to reduce the likelihood of future failures.
* Cabling & Physical Infrastructure:
+ Install, manage, and maintain structured cabling systems (fiber optic and copper) to support network and power requirements.
+ Run, terminate, and test various types of cabling (Cat6, Cat6a, fiber optic) to ensure proper connectivity.
+ Maintain clear and accurate documentation of all cabling work, including patch panels, racks, and pathways.
+ Ensure all cabling and physical installations meet industry standards and best practices for data centres.
* Data Centre Operations:
+ Perform regular monitoring of equipment and environmental conditions within the data centre, such as power, cooling, and humidity levels.
+ Assist in the installation and decommissioning of server racks, hardware, and other equipment.
+ Collaborate with network, server, and facilities teams to support projects and ongoing maintenance efforts.
+ Ensure that all work complies with health, safety, and security standards.
* Documentation & Reporting:
+ Maintain detailed records of incidents, repairs, and routine maintenance.
+ Update data centre diagrams and records to reflect changes in cabling and hardware installations.
+ Provide reports on hardware failures, repair timelines, and inventory status.
Skills Required:
* 3+ years of experience in Telecommunications or Data Centre related fields, showcasing expertise in Data Centre operations.
* Proficiency in racking and stacking hardware, with attention to detail and adherence to best practices.
* Strong knowledge of network device/server deployment, with the ability to configure and troubleshoot effectively.
* Proven experience in handling break/fix scenarios, demonstrating efficient problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Certifications such as BICSI, CompTIA A+, or equivalent are a plus.
* Experience with data centre management software (DCIM) is advantageous.
* Experience with power systems such as UPS and PDUs.
