Science Technician
Location: Stradbroke, Eye IP21 5JN
Salary: FTE £24,790 - £26,409 per annum, Pro rata £14,343 - £15,553 per annum, including an allowance for holiday pay
Hours: 25 hours per week

The Role
The High School seeks to appoint an enthusiastic Science Technician to support and maintain the laboratory, preparation room, equipment, and consumables. The post-holder will possess sound knowledge and experience in a science-based work environment and coordinate first aid provision.
Key Responsibilities
1. Carry out maintenance and basic first line repairs of science equipment, recommending repairs by outside contractors or replacements to the supervisor.
2. Prepare all equipment and resources for demonstration purposes or for use by teaching staff and pupils. Make up standard solutions, construct and modify apparatus, and deliver equipment to laboratories.
3. Clean equipment and laboratories after use, including chemical spillages. Clean laboratory sinks and supervise emptying of sink traps. Carry out health and safety checks on laboratories, preparation rooms, and stores.
4. Ensure safe storage of laboratory equipment in line with health and safety regulations. Collect, check, and return equipment to stores. Conduct stocktaking, cataloguing, and resource control.
5. Dispose of chemicals safely and in line with health and safety regulations, including safe disposal and management of radioactive materials.
6. Support teaching staff in lesson delivery, including practical demonstrations and trial activities. Keep up to date with developments in practical science and advise teachers accordingly.
7. Attend lessons when required to assist pupils with practical work. Provide technical support to students, including health and safety guidance.
8. Carry out risk assessments for technician activities. Ensure teachers have appropriate risk assessments for practicals. Provide health and safety guidance to teachers.
9. Place orders, check deliveries and invoices, and keep financial records.
10. Assist with field trips, science clubs, competitions, and open days.
11. Laminating, collating, filing, and photocopying.
Skills and Qualifications

The qualifications and experience required:
1. A minimum of a grade C / 4, or equivalent, in English and Maths GCSE.
2. Knowledge of science equipment, resources, and related procedures.
3. A degree or post-16 qualification relevant to the post.
