How You'll Make a Difference By being part of a team that delivers services that protect the health of our residents, businesses and communities, you can make a real and positive difference. As an Environmental Protection Officer, you will provide advice, support and take enforcement action where necessary. What You Will Be Doing Regularly, you will carry out surveys, inspections and investigations, write reports, serve legal notices and present cases in court. Acting as an expert witness in court, you will ensure legal requirements are fulfilled relating to noise and statutory nuisance, pest control, private water supplies, drainage, planning and licensing. This will include meditating and negotiating satisfactory outcomes to service requests from the public, councillors and MP’s. Appraising planning and licensing applications, you will carry out environmental assessments and recommend planning and licensing conditions to ensure that the environmental implications are addressed. It will be your responsibility to inspect premises that require an environmental permit. You will ensure compliance with permit conditions are met and respond when necessary to major incidents or other emergencies requiring the support of environmental services staff. You will be responsible for organising your personal workload, maintaining records, writing letters and reports and working with other team members to ensure the targets of the team are achieved. At times, you may be required to lead on one or more functional areas or projects with either a team or wider service focus. Using your knowledge, you will contribute to the development, implementation, monitoring and review of the service plan. What We Need From You It is essential that you are educated to degree standard or equivalent, or able to demonstrate an equivalent level of relevant knowledge with experience in an area of environmental health. You must have work experience in an environmental health a job role and preferably within the environmental protection area. We require you to have a strong communication and negotiation skills, alongside the ability to translate technical issues for non-technical audiences. It is key that you are able to manage your workload, prioritise and respond to demands to ensure both customer satisfaction and legislative requirements are met. What You Need To Know This is a hybrid role meaning that you can work remotely or in our offices.
