Grade: B
Salary: £25,000 - £30,000 (depending on experience)
Role Purpose
Karting is a dynamic discipline within Motorsport UK, accounting for over 25% of all entries with over 30,000 participants annually. The Wera Tools British Kart Championships alone attract over 500 competitors, making it an incredibly exciting time to join the sport. Due to the continued growth of karting, there is now an exciting opportunity to join the team at Motorsport UK and be part of this vibrant and rapidly expanding discipline.
The Sporting Assistant will play a pivotal role in supporting the administration, governance, and growth of karting in the UK. This role encompasses responsibilities across technical and sporting domains, contributing to the long-term sustainability of the discipline while ensuring exceptional customer service and operational excellence.
The role also supports strategic initiatives, assists in championship management, and facilitates the development and implementation of karting regulations and technical standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Administrative Support
* Assist with the compilation, review, publication, and updates of the Karting Yearbook and National Competition Rules (NCR).
* Manage karting championship and club renewals, including regulatory reviews.
* Support Kart Class Homologation, equipment testing, and ongoing audits.
* Maintain karting databases, including class dispensations and community data from events
* Create and edit presentations and documents aligned with strategic goals.
2. Customer and Stakeholder Engagement
* Provide high-quality customer service to the karting community (licence holders, clubs, officials, trade, public etc.).
* Monitor karting-related inboxes and ensure time bound responses to queries.
* Collaborate across departments to meet project deadlines and address concerns.
* Liaise with the safeguarding team to address issues raised at karting events.
3. Coordination and Meeting Support
* Working with the Senior Sporting Assistant to schedule, attend, and prepare agendas for meetings; take minutes and circulate actionable summaries.
* Assist regulatory committees and panels with documentation and proposals.
4. Event and Project Assistance
* Attending karting events occasionally to support operations and observe practices.
* Working across departments assist in planning and delivering karting officials’ seminars, webinars, and training sessions.
* Contribute to the planning and execution of Motorsport UKs karting events including attendance at Motorsport events/shows.
5. Process Development and Improvement
* Standardise and document logistical and organisational processes within karting.
* Address and resolve feedback from steward reports and complaints, including Race with Respect actions.
Essential Skills and Competencies
* Organisational Skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritise effectively, and meet deadlines.
* Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication for professional correspondence.
* Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe, SharePoint, and PowerPoint.
* Customer Service Orientation: Experience handling complex queries and engaging with stakeholders.
* Attention to Detail: High accuracy in documentation and data handling.
* Team Collaboration: Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
* Knowledge of Karting and Motorsport: Understanding of karting pathways, event structures, and knowledge of technical requirements for karting.
Desirable Attributes
* Familiarity with motorsport governance structures and FIA Sporting Codes.
* Passion for motorsport, with prior experience in karting and/or event management.
* Innovative approach to improving processes and operations.
