Edwards Exhaust Management Systems business is the world's leading supplier of technology to abate toxic and global warming gases produced during the manufacture of microelectronic devices.
Edwards Exhaust Gas Management (EGM) division is seeking a Year in Industry Placement student to undertake development work in the Clevedon Gas Abatement Laboratory. The position will be within the innovation, development and applications (IDA) group, interacting with an interdisciplinary environment of engineers and scientists. The position will report to a Technologist.
Whilst on the programme...
* The role requires an ability to work in an industrial lab environment and observe Edwards EHS rules and guidelines.
* Analytical chemistry skills including instillation of test gases, leak checking of test equipment, analysis of gases using equipment including FTIR, mass spec, electrochemical cells, analysis and write up of data.
* Ability to contribute to innovative technology development or product improvement.
* Carry out risk assessments on prototype equipment or lab test rigs and to operate them safely.
* Collect accurate data and write up detailed and accurate reports on experimental work.
* Ability to present and convey the results of this work in a concise and clear way to other members of the team.

Typically, the programme lasts for 12 months as a paid placement.
You will be responsible for:

About you
The ideal placement student needs to design, build and operate experiments with the aim of experiencing working in an experimental lab; you are expected to collect data, analyse, write-up and report results of your experiments. You will be consistently supported by more experienced staff.
You will need to be confident in discussing process, chemical and abatement issues within the team and when needed to other teams. You must be able to use available resources on site to perform basic analysis of flow conditions and abatement performance.
You are expected to be mechanically adept, being able to upgrade and modify systems when setting up experimental conditions.
