RAC Patrol Apprentice (Light Vehicle Technician)

Annual wage:
* Year 1: £13,312.00

Working week:
With the nature of this role being roadside, RAC applies a shift work pattern that will average 40 hours per week. Hours can vary on the specific day; on average, it will be an 8-hour day.
What will the apprentice be doing?
As an apprentice, you will learn all the skills to become a Roadside Technician with a fantastic range of future career options ahead of you. During your apprenticeship program you will:
* Use a range of tools, measuring, and diagnostic equipment to identify & repair simple system faults.
* Complete a mix of both college learning and on-the-job training with one of our experienced apprentice team leaders. This role will provide much more than just how to be a mechanic.
* You will have exposure to real-life breakdown situations which will require you to offer roadside assistance following diagnostic and repair procedures, communicate with our members, and aim to get our members back on the road.
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
Training is delivered in the workplace and via seven weekly college training blocks per year at S&B's specialist Automotive Academy in Bristol.
* The apprentice will be assigned a workplace mentor and a S&B development coach who will offer support, advice, and guidance by monitoring progress via S&B’s purposely developed eLogbook that all parties can access any time.
* Apprentices take a Gateway Assessment at the end of every year to progress until the completion of the End Point Assessment.
* If an apprentice faces a daily commute to S&B’s Academy that is not viable whilst attending a weekly training block, the apprentice can arrange with RAC to stay in hotel accommodation. All costs for accommodation, breakfast, and an evening meal are met by the employer, and there will be no cost to you.
As a result, you will receive the following qualification:
* Level 2 Autocare Technician Apprenticeship Standard
* Functional Skills in maths and English if required
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
Once qualified, this role provides a varied working environment where no two days will be the same. Once qualified, a Roadside Technician will benefit from a competitive salary of £33,000 - £41,000 per annum.

* GCSE or equivalent English (Grade 4/C) desirable

Things to consider
The competition for apprenticeship placements is strong, so please ensure your application is tailored to the type of apprenticeship you are applying for. Pay attention to presentation, spelling, and grammar, and include any relevant experience, hobbies/interests, or qualifications. This position will include driving a company van to and from breakdown locations. You must have a full clean UK driving license and be over 18 years of age (No upper age limit). In the first 6 months of employment, you will be required to travel to S&B Academy and RAC training venues - you will be reimbursed travel costs in these instances. Due to the nature of the role, you will be required to complete a full DBS check as part of the application process.
