Role: Learning Support Assistant (BSL specialism)
Location: Exmouth
Contract: Full time, Contract (opportunity to become permanent)
Salary: £90 - £100 per day (depending on experience and qualifications)
Are you passionate about supporting the education and development of young people? Do you know British Sign Language (BSL) and have experience in working with deaf or hearing-impaired individuals? We have an exciting opportunity for a dedicated BSL Learning Support Assistant to join a truly unique and awe-inspiring provision for 9 - 25 year olds, based in the picturesque seaside town Exmouth.
In this role, you will work closely with students and teachers to facilitate effective communication and support the learning needs of deaf students. You will play a crucial role in creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment, helping students to thrive academically.
Key responsibilities:
* Provide one-to-one and small group support for deaf students, using BSL to aid communication and understanding
* Assist teachers in delivering lessons, adapting materials and activities to meet the needs of students with hearing impairments
* Support the social and emotional development of students, fostering a positive and inclusive classroom atmosphere
* Work collaboratively with teachers, parents and other professionals
* Assist with classroom management and general administrative tasks
Requirements:
* Qualification in British Sign Language (Level 1, 2 or 3) - training will be provided by the school to support your professional development
* Experience working with deaf or hearing-impaired children or young adults, preferably within an educational setting
* A compassionate and patient approach
* The ability to adapt to different learning styles
* A valid DBS check (or willingness to get one)
