Job Description Key Responsibilities and Functions
Payments
1. Set up and maintain retail sales processes for produce and ‘on consignment’ goods.
2. Perform functions on behalf of Council relating to customer service, receipting, collecting revenue, dissemination of information and clerical support as designated.
3. Provide efficient cash receipting service and retail sales processes on behalf of Council.
4. Balancing and banking of Council monies.
Administration Support
1. Maintain supplies ensuring sufficient and quality information and brochures are available for customer enquiries at all times.
2. Order and distribute brochures through our VIP network and LTA’s.
3. Provide general administrative assistance as required and according to Council standards.
4. Respond accurately and in a timely manner to visitor inquiries or concerns.
5. Ensure that customer enquiries are lodged in our council systems to ensure an excellent level of service to our visitors and residents.
Customer Service
1. Receive, register, assess and initiate action on customer enquiries / requests / complaints.
2. Provide a general information service through telephone, email, face to face or other contact points to internal and external customers.
3. Provide a booking agency for various events, tourism products and Council venues.
4. Liaise with Moira Shire staff to ensure customers’ needs are met.
Tourism
1. Provide accurate advice and quality visitor information in a professional and courteous manner, promoting a positive image of Council at all times.
2. Liaise with the Tourism Unit, Local Tourism Associations, community groups and local businesses to ensure quality delivery of visitor services.
3. Maintain and monitor information and statistical records ensuring that all data is collected and updated, collated and / or amended on a regular basis, including visitation data, correspondence records, marketing collateral usage, visitor information point stats, visitors records to Barmah Forest Heritage Education Centre (BFHEC) and mobile visitor information van.
4. Ensure accreditation requirements are adhered to, where appropriate.
Undertake Open and Closing procedures of the workplace.
1. Stocking and support of our Visitor Information Point network including statistics and provision of physical brochures and training.
2. Assist with Tourism communications of the region including mail outs, What’s on content, Photos in region for social platforms, brochure coordination.
3. Assist with the packaging of products / experiences to be promoted and / or through Council’s visitor services touchpoints.
4. Assist with the development and running of staff / volunteer training programs relevant to Visitors Services.
Ensure aesthetic appeal and consistency of displays.
1. Assist Economic Development activities in achieving departmental strategies for Council.
Train Tourism Volunteers in visitor servicing procedures.
1. On completion of the driver training for the mobile visitor information van, enabling knowledge of the operating procedures, utilizing the Mobile information Van at events across the region.
2. Follow operating procedures of the mobile visitor information van.
3. Setup and operate the mobile visitor information van at locations as designated according to schedule.
4. Review, input, assist to create and adhere to Job Safety Analysis (JSA’s) for the sites where the van will operate.
5. Drive according to the road conditions, and report any concerns with the operation of the vehicle as per council procedures.
Barmah Forest Heritage and Education Centre
1. Assist tours of the Barmah Forest Heritage and Education Centre and history talks.
2. Ensure permanent exhibition is maintained.
3. Promote the Barmah Forest Heritage and Education Centre to visitors and locals and ensure visitor information is up to date.
4. Work in accordance with the Mobile VIC SOP to ensure effective delivery of Visitor Services at events and attractions both in and outside of the region.
5. Maintain appropriate Visitor Statistics for Mobile VIC to provide evidence of successful engagement in region.
Assist in the servicing of the VIP Network in region.
Although an employee may be appointed to a particular position, Council may ask for duties to be carried out in other areas that are within their range of skills, competence and training.

Desired Skills and Experience
Essential qualifications and experience
1. Ability to represent Moira Shire in a professional and positive manner and deliver a high level of customer service to visitors, community and business representatives, and other staff members.
2. Experience in tourism, customer service, travel or events management and / or other relevant experience in a similar role.
3. Tourism knowledge and / or experience relevant to Moira Shire and the wider Murray region and working knowledge of Barmah Forest region.
4. Possession of excellent computer skills and experience of website management and online bookings.
5. Ability to be flexible and to work without constant supervision, maintain confidentiality and work effectively and contribute to a team.
6. A demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with people from diverse groups and to work effectively with ambassadors.
7. A demonstrated commitment to the provision of high-quality customer service.
8. Relevant certificate in tourism or events management and / or experience in a similar role.
Desirable qualifications and experience
1. Prior experience in local government.
2. Highly developed and proven computer skills including a sound knowledge of Microsoft software (Word and Excel) and other programs.
3. Background in cash handling.
4. Ability to work autonomously.
5. Demonstrated understanding and experience in the operations of Local Government.
