Site Engineer – Flood Defence Scheme

Rate: £450 per day
Fairmead are proud to be recruiting on behalf of a leading civil engineering contractor, renowned for delivering large-scale infrastructure projects across the UK. We are seeking an experienced Site Engineer to join a high-profile flood defence scheme in Canvey Island, offering the opportunity to work on a vital project designed to protect communities and enhance resilience against flooding.
This is a long-term contract role with an immediate start, offering competitive day rates and the chance to make a tangible impact on critical infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
As a Site Engineer, you will play a crucial role in the successful delivery of this flood defence scheme. Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
1. Setting Out and Surveying:
o Establishing precise engineering controls, including the accurate setting out of flood defence walls, drainage systems, culverts, and earthworks.
o Using modern surveying equipment (e.g., Total Stations, GPS) to ensure compliance with design drawings and specifications.
2. Quality Assurance:
o Conducting on-site inspections to verify that all works adhere to strict quality standards and project specifications.
o Maintaining detailed records of inspections, tests, and materials, ensuring traceability and compliance with the project’s QA systems.
3. Technical Support:
o Interpreting complex engineering drawings and ensuring construction teams understand the technical requirements.
o Providing technical advice and resolving any on-site issues to maintain project progress.
4. Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance:
o Upholding rigorous HSE standards, promoting a safe working environment, and addressing potential hazards proactively.
o Ensuring all works comply with environmental guidelines specific to flood defence schemes, such as watercourse protection and biodiversity conservation.
5. Coordination and Communication:
o Liaising with project managers, subcontractors, and design teams to ensure smooth workflows and timely delivery of project milestones.
o Coordinating with stakeholders, including local authorities and environmental agencies, as required.
6. Progress Monitoring and Reporting:
o Preparing daily and weekly progress reports, identifying potential delays, and proposing mitigation strategies.
o Managing as-built records and ensuring these are kept up-to-date for project handover.
Essential Requirements:
* A proven track record of delivering large-scale infrastructure projects, ideally within flood defence, marine, or waterworks environments.
* Proficient in surveying equipment and software such as Leica, Trimble, or similar.
* Strong understanding of civil engineering principles, including RC structures, earthworks, and temporary works.
* Excellent knowledge of health, safety, and environmental compliance, with relevant training or certification (e.g., CSCS, SMSTS).
* Strong organisational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
* Relevant qualification in Civil Engineering (e.g., HNC/HND, BSc).
