Senior Clinical Fellow in Intensive Care
Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board
The post holder will join a team of Consultants and Specialty Doctors responsible for the provision of anaesthetics and critical care services to the University Health Board in Cwm Taf Morgannwg. The Senior Clinical Fellow will be based at the Princess of Wales Hospital, Bridgend but may also be required to work in Prince Charles in Merthyr Tydfil, Royal Glamorgan Hospital in Llantrisant and across other sites within the organisation.
You will join the Critical Care rota primarily. There are two tiers of anaesthetics out of hours (Theatre and Obstetrics). While each staff member has an area of responsibility, there is an expectation that the resident staff work as a team.
The Senior Clinical Fellow is an important member of the department. The post holder will be encouraged to be involved in teaching, training, audit and research. The successful post holder will have a good blend of independence and support from the consultant body.
The post will be part of the on-call rota on a 1:8 basis, with a 40-hour week job plan, and enhanced payment for the on-call commitment.

Main duties of the job
You will be required to adhere to the principles of good medical practice laid down in the guidance of 'Good Medical Practice' issued by the General Medical Council.
You will be expected to deputise for absent colleagues and, in exceptional unforeseen circumstances, may have to perform additional duties to ensure the safe running of the department.
You will be required to participate in the Health Board's (HB) risk management process and in clinical audit and other clinical governance activities within the department, the directorate and the HB. Adherence to Caldicott Principles is mandatory.
You will be required to participate in the HB's Appraisal Scheme in conjunction with your Supervising Consultant, to identify training and development needs. You will be expected to participate in personal and professional development to fulfil Royal College CME requirements.
You will be responsible for undertaking the administrative duties associated with the care of patients and the administration of the department.
You will be required to participate and contribute to Clinical Audit in line with the HB's policy.
The Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations 2000 impose a legal responsibility on HBs for all staff that refer patients for medical radiation exposure such as diagnostic x-rays to supply sufficient data to enable those considering the request to decide whether the procedure is justified.

Person Specification
Qualifications & Eligibility
* Full GMC Registration with a license to practice
* ALS Certified
* To participate in training programmes in the department, where consultants have approved the post holder's particular expertise
* Primary FRCA
* ATLS certified
* EPLS/APLS certified
* 4 years postgraduate training (or equivalent on a part-time or flexible basis), 2 of which in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty or as a fixed-term specialty trainee in a relevant specialty or shall have relevant experience or competencies.
* Evidence of regular critical care session commitment
* Experience of working in the UK
Knowledge and Skills
* Ability to work unsupervised during unsociable hours, including: The prompt response to calls, establishing a clinical impression and formulation/action of a critical care/anaesthetic plan.
* Ability to safely perform, while unsupervised: Arterial and central venous catheterisation, intubation of the airway.
Personality Requirements
* Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English suitable to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues.
* Flexible and the ability to work well in a team environment, including other teams within and external to the organisation.
Audit
* Demonstrable commitment to the audit process and ability to participate in audit to practice evidence-based medicine.

* Must be able to perform the duties of the post
* The post holder must have proof of immunity to Hepatitis B or evidence that you are not Hepatitis B e antigen positive. This must have been obtained in the last 6 months.
