Job Responsibilities
Performs routine transportation operations or maintenance support work such as: roadway maintenance and repair; light and heavy equipment operation; preventive and minor maintenance on equipment; traffic control; and helping the public during emergency situations.
Essential Duties
The essential duties for Roadway Maintenance Tech I include:
* Assists in providing support to local law enforcement officials at accident sites; assists stranded motorists as required.
* Assists with traffic control; places and gathers cones, warning signs and barricades; flags traffic.
* Inspects barricades to ensure compliance with barricade standards.
* Maintains highways and rights-of-way; performs roadway repairs; erects and repairs guard rails, highway markers and signs; hauls materials and equipment to job sites.
* Moves/picks up litter and roadway debris.
* Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Additional duties for Roadway Maintenance Tech II include all the above and:
* Assists in inspecting traffic control devices and their placement at construction project sites for compliance with specifications.
* Operates heavy equipment such as a front-end loader, tractor-trailer haul truck, and large dragline.
* Identifies, repairs, and installs signs, delineators, mailbox supports and posts.
* Inspects routine maintenance contract construction methods and workmanship.
Additional duties for Roadway Maintenance Tech III include all the above and:
* Performs preventive maintenance inspections (PMI), routine servicing and minor repairs on equipment.
* Trains other employees.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience : RMT I = No experience required; RMT II = 1 year experience; RMT III = 2 years experience.
*Experience must be in transportation engineering support, roadway maintenance, construction inspection, heavy equipment operation, or related work experience.
Licenses and Certifications
* Valid driver’s license at the time of application.
* RMT I: Must have a Commercial Class "A" Driver's License with an "N" Endorsement or obtain it within 180 calendar days from date of employment.
* RMT II-III: Must have a Commercial Class "A" Driver's License with an "N" Endorsement.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions for RMT I-III:
* Required to wear protective gear.
* Subject to extreme temperatures, noise, and hazards.
* This job has been identified as physically demanding and will require a pre-employment physical.
Must be able to report for duty within 60 minutes of notification on a 24-hour basis to respond to emergency situations.
