Job summary The Royal Papworth NHS Hospital Foundation Trust presents an exciting opportunity to join our finance team, as we look to appoint an Assistant Financial Accountant. Royal Papworth is one of the world's leading cardiothoracic hospitals and the UK's main heart and lung transplant centre. Working within a small team, the Assistant Financial Accountant is responsible for monitoring the Trusts aged debt levels and pulling together the agenda for the monthly debt review meetings with SBS. The post holder will also be responsible for reconciling balance sheet control accounts and for providing cover for the cashier post. Development of NHS VAT knowledge will be an important part of this role to ensure VAT is correctly dealt with. The post holder will also be involved in both the month end & year end processes. Main duties of the job Be responsible for monitoring the Trusts debt position and aged debt levels. Prepare a monthly aged debt report for review by the Financial Controller. To be involved in the debt meetings with SBS to review aged debts. Includes preparing the agenda and agreeing debts to prioritise. Reconcile a range of balance sheet control accounts. To identify, investigate and recode balances on these accounts as appropriate. Prepare and post monthly journals for R&D funds. Responsible for ensuring R&D reports are issued to fund holders on a monthly basis. Review and process weekly and monthly payroll and NHS Supply Chain files and enter them onto the finance system. Assist with the preparation of the monthly bad debt provision based on IFRS 9 principles. To develop and maintain an up-to-date knowledge on the VAT rules associated with the Trusts income. Raise monthly journals as part of the month end process within the deadlines set out. Maintain the SBS Oracle users. This will include the setup and removal of users and ensuring users have appropriate access. Assist the cashier with the weekly banking and payment of patient travel cost reimbursements. Also provide cover for the cashier function for periods of leave or other absence. Assist in preparing year end working papers and other ad hoc year end processes.
