Job summary
The postholder will work within the Cancer Information & Systems team to ensure the trust has access to the high quality data analysis and information required to inform and reform the provision of health care and to make executive decisions.
The postholder will use their knowledge of data flows, data processing skills, reporting and advanced analytics to maintain effective data collection, processing, analysis, validation, interpretation, submission and reporting of complex information in accordance with service level agreements and other local, statutory and national requirements. Integral to this role is investigating and resolving complex queries / issues and developing and maintaining effective data processing and reporting solutions.
Work with internal and external customers to ensure that accurate, timely and valid data and reports are provided to fulfil statutory, national and local requirements.
Work with Development Leads to ensure the planning, development and deployment of complex solutions conform to NHS data standards and the trust Information Strategy, including comprehensive procedure documentation and appropriate change control procedures.
Main duties of the job
Interrogate, analyse and interpret complex data in SQL, database and spreadsheet applications and present results in a clear and appropriate manner, including predictive modelling and complex statistical reports.
Liaise with clinical centres to understand their information requirements and work with Development Leads to interpret and transform these into insightful reports.
Lead specific project streams and deliver multiple projects to tight timescales.
Become the expert for key projects within the Cancer Information and Systems team, identifying and leading on changes as required.
Work with local and national NHS datasets and models, including Cancer Outcome and Services Dataset, and Cancer Waiting Times.
Lead on information requirements analysis for new requests such as audits or complex information requests. Determine the appropriate course of action and identify possible follow-up queries before they arise.
Produce, maintain and be able to follow comprehensive procedure documentation and technical specifications.
Lead on and contribute to the impact assessment of Information Standards Notices (ISNs) and other national guidance and implement agreed solutions
Ensure the confidentiality of often sensitive information, especially with regard to the handling of data, acting according to the Data Protection Act and Caldicott Guardian requirements
Ensure adherence to health and safety responsibilities in the working area.

1. Extensive knowledge of and experience working with SQL
2. Knowledge of ETL processes and business process automation.
3. Knowledge of Microsoft reporting solutions, including SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and Power BI.
4. Data analytical, evaluation and system development skills.
