Reporting To: Head of Counselling and Therapy
Key Relationships: Residents, Registered Manager, Head of Counselling and Therapy, Colleagues, Relatives, Community Contacts.
Role Purpose: Working in line with Hengoed Park’s values; to lead and encourage residents to join in meaningful activities whilst maintaining their independence, choice, and dignity, to enable them to lead as full and active a life as possible.
Role Description
* To work with residents in order to identify their social and recreational requirements according to their personal preferences and abilities.
* To assist residents with activity sessions, mobility, encouragement and general support in a residential home.
* To liaise and consult with other staff and relatives regarding the care of residents and particular activities that may be beneficial and stimulating.
* To liaise with relatives and staff regarding special individual requirements, such as birthdays, cultural or religious festivals.
* To promote and enhance Hengoed Park in the community.
* Working flexibly to meet the needs of the service.
* To contribute to assessments of the effectiveness of the activities and social events programme.
* To work as an active team member with colleagues to ensure the highest standards of care are achieved.
* To support residents' personal needs including assistance with shopping, and to support cleaning of their homes/bedrooms for those that hold a tenancy and are a supported living/domiciliary care user of Hengoed Park.
* To assist and support residents at meal times as required, ensuring the appropriate equipment is available and the atmosphere is conducive to a relaxed environment.
* To ensure that all activities are documented in the resident’s care plan and activity diary.
* Subscribe to and align all your work with Hengoed Park’s values of humanity, collaboration, communication and outcomes.
* Attend regular staff meetings and one-to-ones adopting a pro-active approach. Provide feedback to the management team on any aspect of the working of the home.
* Develop effective working relationships with other employees within the service managing any areas of disagreement in a collaborative manner.
* Adhere to existing working practices, methods and procedures. Undertake relevant training and development activities and respond positively to new and alternative systems.
* To maintain care skills at current level and to undertake such training and development as may be required.
* Take responsibility for the health and safety of oneself and others in the workplace, particularly in respect of: Risk assessment, Accident reporting, Lone working procedures, Risk management- ensuring you use chemicals in accordance with our COSHH policy.
* Ensure that you contribute positively to the safeguarding culture at Hengoed Park and if you become aware of real or suspected abuse report it promptly as required by the Safeguarding procedure.

Experience
* Previous experience in a similar role or working with vulnerable adults. Training can be given. This is desirable but not essential. D

Qualifications
* Care Certificate and/or NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care or willingness to study towards D
* Certification as an Activities Professional by a recognised accrediting organisation such as NAPA D
* Valid driver’s license E
