The Archives Manager is at the heart of The Royal Archives, entrusted with the care and stewardship of over 12 million documents that form the official and personal papers of the Sovereign and Members of the Royal Family. Reporting to the Librarian & Assistant Keeper of the Royal Archives, you’ll be responsible for shaping and implementing strategy, overseeing high-impact cataloguing and digitisation projects, and leading the Archives team to success. Your work will ensure the continued preservation of and access to the archives. Key Responsibilities: You’ll lead the development and implementation of the Royal Archives' strategy for the collection, storage, preservation, and security of materials, ensuring that best practices are consistently followed. You’ll oversee a range of transformational projects, including cataloguing and digitisation, guaranteeing that all processes meet high-quality standards. You’ll work collaboratively with internal teams to safeguard the physical and digital security of materials, while ensuring proper preservation and storage methods are in place. You’ll manage access to the Archives in line with established policies, serving as the go-to expert on all archival matters. You’ll create and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, both within the organisation and externally, to ensure the Archives’ long-term success and ongoing development. You’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the digital strategy and contributing to the long-term preservation plans for the archives. Essential Criteria: Along with proven experience managing diverse collections and knowledge of international archival standards, you’ll be comfortable overseeing significant digital transformation and preservation projects. You’ll have strong leadership skills and experience developing, inspiring and motivating those around you. With your excellent communication skills, you’ll have a proven ability to build strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. Your exceptional organisational skills and your eye for detail will help you manage competing deadlines and absorb knowledge and information. Whilst a postgraduate qualification in archives management would be desired, it’s your commitment to and extensive experience with the stewardship of invaluable collections and bringing forward-thinking approaches to digital archiving that we’re looking for.
