About Us
UCL is a world leading, global top 10 university. Made up of 11 faculties and additional central professional services teams, we employ 17,000 people to deliver ground-breaking research and exceptional teaching to over 50,000 students.
We’re hiring for the job of Head of Financial strategy due to a recent promotion. This job sits within our FP&A directorate. The Directorate leads on financial planning, internal management reporting and compliance reporting to our regulators, analysis and modelling.
UCL has invested significantly in growing the FP&A function over the last two years, reflecting the Directorate’s critical role in setting the strategic direction for our University.
About The Role
As our Head of Financial Strategy, you’ll have the chance to set the financial direction of UCL into the next decade by developing UCL’s next financial strategy, ensuring that it aligns with UCL’s Strategic Plan whilst delivering financial sustainability.
In developing the strategy, you’ll lead finance engagement with UCL’s Philanthropy team to build institutional understanding of how philanthropic income contributes to financial and strategic objectives. You’ll also lead on maintaining the current financial strategy, including identifying risks to delivery and identifying options to address any divergence from the current plan. This could include leading work to identify opportunities to reduce spend, or to generating additional income.
This is a high-profile job which will involve significant engagement with University Management Committee members including the Provost, CFO, Vice President Strategy and Vice President Operations.
We think this is a fantastic opportunity.
This is a Grade 10 post which is likely to pay a salary of between £85,000 to £95,000. We may be able to go a little higher for an exceptional candidate.
UCL is a flexible employer, and we’re happy to consider applications to work on a part-time, flexible and job share basis wherever possible.
A full list of duties can be found on the attached job description.
About You
To do this job you’ll need to be a fully qualified accountant with significant post qualification experience and demonstrable experience in a planning or finance role. Successful experience leading the development of financial strategy in a complex environment, and a track record of financial leadership and managing a team, is also essential.
If you have previous experience of working in an HE institution and/or current knowledge of the funding environment for research and teaching that’s great, but it is not essential for the role. What really matters is that you’re someone with a passion for strategic financial leadership who is keen to help UCL deliver on its vision.
Please review the job description, paying particular attention to the essential and desirable criteria, and ensure these are covered in your application.
