Job overview
The Research and Development department at Aneurin Bevan University Health Board facilitates and supports the sponsorship and hosting of clinical studies. A key component of this service is the research delivery team, comprising research nurses, research officers, and administrators who collaborate to ensure the successful implementation of high-quality healthcare studies. This is a new post, and the Clinical Research Fellow will play a key role in supporting our growth in commercial and more complex drug trials.
The Clinical Research Centre at the Royal Gwent Hospital, established in 2021, offers a dedicated environment with specialised equipment and experienced staff for clinical research. Doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals use the centre as investigators to conduct research aimed at advancing treatments for a wide range of diseases and conditions.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience and expertise in the management and conduct of clinical trials, spanning multiple disease areas with trials ranging from phases II-IV. It is particularly well-suited for individuals who have completed foundation training and are seeking to further develop their knowledge and skills in clinical research.
The primary role of this post is to assist the Research Delivery Team and Principal Investigators in managing clinical studies for patients within ABUHB. The post holder will receive specific training and develop expertise in research governance, quality assurance, clinical trial setup, and timely study delivery, ensuring full regulatory compliance and patient safety. Responsibilities of the role will include acting as a Co-Investigator, undertaking medical examinations, assessing causality of serious events, and general medical oversight of clinical research. Other responsibilities will include maintaining regulatory documents, recruiting study participants, and data entry. The post holder must ensure that all studies are conducted in accordance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) standards.
