We are looking for a Technical Project Engineer to drive forward our next-generation laser processing platforms. Opsydia is transforming security and traceability in the diamond gemstone industry with our precision laser technology, which can write tamper-proof, permanent identities inside diamonds and other precious gems. Our first deployed products, the Dx000 series systems, utilise optical techniques and machine vision to secure diamond identities on a commercial scale, supporting transparency and traceability initiatives for ethical supply chains. Our technology also provides a platform for next-generation functional devices in diamond and other transparent materials with several potential disruptive applications, from quantum devices to chemical and magnetic sensors. THE ROLE As a Project Engineer, you will take a lead on our internal and external facing projects and have a can-do attitude. As a person with an optics or systems technical background you will also be expected to contribute to the system hardware development for new and existing products, and understand what is technically feasible. You will be involved in early planning stages of research projects as well as being involved in liaising with customers around the technical feasibilities of our systems. You will work closely with both the Systems Engineering and Production teams. This role is ideally suited to someone with a systems or optical engineering type background coupled with a certification and demonstrable experience in project management. Across internal R&D and external customer projects in all application areas, you will :- Be responsible for taking a project lead from the planning phase Prepare, schedule, coordinate and maintain an assigned portfolio of projects Be an external facing person liaising with the customer from concept through to delivery of production systems Resolve problems with plans, budgets and teams to ensure projects move according to schedule Help develop system design architecture for customer-specific applications Contribute technical expertise to the Systems Engineering team including, but not limited to, industrial system design, machine vision and electrical engineering elements Complete proof of concept trials and live demos for prospective customers Assist with the production of technical documentation We encourage applications from those that have a good level of experience with practical elements of optical and laser systems. ABOUT YOU You will have a significant technical background with a degree or equivalent experience in the physical sciences, engineering or related fields and enjoy working as part of a small collaborative team. You will be able to demonstrate that you have the following:- Excellent communication skills A proactive approach to problem solving Have a keen attention to detail at both technical and commercial levels Strong record-keeping and organisational skills A formal qualification in project management (PRINCE2, PMP or equivalent) A proven ability to work within budgets and deadlines A creative mindset, comfortable both developing new ideas and employing existing technical solutions Enthusiasm and interest in understanding complex technical systems Demonstrable hands-on experience of optical, and/or industrial systems This role is advertised as full-time, however, part-time would be considered at a minimum of 0.8 FTE. We are pleased to accommodate flexible and hybrid working where appropriate but, as a hardware company, we find hands-on system and collaboration time to be highly valuable, so encourage time spent in the office and expect this when required.
