As a SAS Psychiatrist in Liaison Psychiatry based at Maidstone Hospital in Kent, you will be responsible for delivering a high-quality clinical service and actively involved in the strategic development of the team and broader services.
Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust is a large acute hospital trust providing a full range of general hospital services to around 500,000 people living in the South of West Kent and parts of North East Sussex. The Liaison Psychiatry Service provides a single point of contact for the mental health needs of patients attending the Emergency Department or admitted to the general hospital.
In this role, you will be working jointly with Consultant Liaison Psychiatrists and with support share operational and clinical leadership of the team to ensure that the sites are suitably covered.
Successful applicants will be fully registered with the GMC, and either have or be working towards S12 approval under the Mental Health Act.
Main duties of the job
* To provide psychiatric care to patients referred to the Liaison Psychiatry Service.
* To provide professional leadership including clinical leadership to the Liaison Multidisciplinary Team.
* To ensure effective liaison occurs between mental health services and the acute hospital, and also with other agencies in the voluntary and statutory sectors as appropriate.

Person specification
QUALIFICATIONS
* MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
* MRCPsych OR a specialist qualification from an EU country that complies with EU directive 2005/36/EU.
ELIGIBILITY
* Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
* In good standing with GMC with respect to warnings and conditions on practice.
* Approved under S12 OR able to achieve with 6 months of appointment.
TRANSPORT
* Holds and will use valid UK driving licence OR provides evidence of proposed alternative.
CLINICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
* At least 4 years postgraduate experience, including at least 2 years in core psychiatry training programme.
* Good knowledge in specialty.
* Good clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge.
* Good oral and written communication skills in English.
* Postgraduate experience in specialty.
