This vacancy is for a Radiotherapy Engineer in our Oncology Workshop which is based in the Gloucestershire Oncology Centre at Cheltenham General Hospital. Applicants should ideally have substantial years engineering experience in maintenance and repair of complex machines, experience in radiotherapy or medical equipment maintenance would be beneficial. Excellent fault finding skills and the enthusiasm to learn are essential.
Full training and development will be provided as required to the successful applicant.

Main duties of the job
We are looking for a candidate that enjoys working both autonomously and within a team, who is enthusiastic and highly motivated to join a team of engineers that aspire to deliver engineering services to the highest standards. Applicants are welcome from an engineering background, preferably with electronics and electrical engineering experience, and who possess good interpersonal and communication skills.
Key skill areas include, fault finding, ability to follow safe working practices, decision making, communication and attention to detail.

About us
The Oncology Department at Cheltenham is a Centre of Excellence and has modern equipment, with 4 linear accelerators, CT scanner, superficial X-ray machine and a brachytherapy treatment unit. Support is also provided to 1 linear accelerator at the satellite unit in Hereford. Basic hours are hours per week but flexibility will be needed to fit in with the needs of the radiotherapy unit.
You will join a team of 4 engineers providing on-site support. Applicants may be required to attend manufacturer's training courses abroad and travel to our satellite centre in Hereford.

Job responsibilities
The appointed engineer will join our on-site engineering team working in conjunction with radiographers, physicists and other clinical staff.
The post holder will provide engineering support for Varian IX and TrueBeam Linear Accelerators at Cheltenham and our satellite centre in Hereford. On-call support is provided on weekday evenings and the occasional weekend.
The main duties of the role are associated with the provision of hands-on fault diagnosis and specialist repair of clinical radiotherapy treatment equipment. The post holder will be required to make decisions on the safe performance of the equipment and take actions, balancing the requirement for safety and avoiding delays to patient treatment.

Qualifications, Experience and Knowledge
Essential
1. Educated to degree level or equivalent in an Engineering Discipline
2. Substantial years experience in an engineering environment
3. Current driving licence
4. Familiar with linac service requirements
5. Familiar with low voltage safety requirements
Desirable
6. Familiar with electrical test area working conditions
7. Experience of working on Varian linac machines
8. String technical knowledge of complex computer controlled electronic and electromechanical systems
9. Experience of procurement and stock control
