Salary G7 £32,654- £37,035 per annum
Contract: full-time 37 hours, fixed term for two years
The nature of this post is such that there may be a requirement to visit other locations in the course of their duties and therefore a car mileage allowance will be applicable.
Walsall Council is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Project Officer to manage our ‘Walsall Archive for All’ project, funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund. This is a fixed-term position and an exciting opportunity to Champion and lead on the management of a National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF) project that will build digital capacity within Walsall Council Archives and broaden representation within its collections to help establish a vibrant heritage sector, which is integrated into Walsall’s overall vision and transformation.
The archives service is based in the refurbished Lichfield Street Hub in Walsall town centre in a building shared with Walsall Library. This is an ideal opportunity to work with the Archivist, the Leisure, Operations and Projects Manager and the archives team to develop the service further.
The post-holder will be responsible for the management, delivery, and evaluation of the Walsall Archive for All project. Duties include:
* Overall responsibility for the running of The National Lottery Heritage Funded project, developing the efficient workflow of various project processes, managing budgetary requirements, and producing progress and monitoring reports as required.
* Provide support to project capacity including partners Walsall for All and Walsall College, the Engagement Delivery Partner, in addition to volunteers assisting in the delivery of project outputs.
* Recruiting and supervising the team of volunteers who will support the delivery of the project, inclusive of upskilling young people to develop future career opportunities.
* Participating in the services outreach and engagement programme.
* Developing an understanding of the methods for storing digital collections e.g. online repositories, and the importance of metadata to support the search-ability and usability of online images. This will include developing an understanding on how to use a new digital asset management system so that it is used to its full potential and for the correct purposes.
* Raising awareness of the project by delivering information and public engagement and consultation events, to promote the content and collections through a range of appealing methods that will highlight value and impact and sustain user interest.
Other important aspects of the role include timely and efficient collection and collation of financial and statistical information relating to the project and promoting the project to the public via social media, events, and other activities.
A full UK driving licence would be an advantage but is not essential.
