Main duties of the job
You'll be part of the Trust Research & Development (R&D) service's dynamic senior management team playing a vital decision-making role, being instrumental, in both championing the growing nursing and interdisciplinary research portfolio and ensuring we successfully:
1. Deliver our extensive academic and commercial research portfolio that includes early phase/advanced therapy trials through to phase Ill
2. Deliver our exciting and ambitious programmes of Velindre Futures for R&D and Transforming Cancer Services.
3. Develop and implement the Trust's Nursing Strategy to deliver the best care to our patients and service users.

Qualifications and Knowledge
Essential
4. Educated to master's level, undertaking or willing to undertake a MSc.
5. Nursing degree first level registration and Current nursing registration
6. Substantial Oncology Experience including experience in undertaking, coordinating, and managing clinical research.
7. Knowledge of cancer research cancer services in NHS organisations
8. Understanding of cancer medical and research terminology and concepts.
9. Specific domain/theoretical/practical knowledge relevant to cancer research.
10. Capable of leading and initiating change.
Desirable
11. MSc that has included an empirical dissertation.
12. Management qualification or significant relevant experience
13. Able to sustain good working relationships with other research, academic and health professionals.
Experience
Essential
14. Significant management experience in an NHS senior role including staff management.
15. Extensive experience in research management within the NHS/Healthcare setting.
16. Expertise in innovating, designing, and delivering change management and continuous improvement services.
17. Experience of partnership building between organisations
18. Proven and significant leadership experience including experience of leadership in organisational change.
19. Project management qualification or significant experience in managing complex and large projects/programmes.
20. Experience of managing research teams and motivating and inspiring staff to work together to achieve a common objective.
21. Strong understanding of Research Governance and the legislative framework
22. Understanding of the NHS clinical environment
23. Flexible approach to working including problem solving skills, management of change and a desire to develop knowledge.
24. Highly specialised knowledge of current national systems and structures for the funding and support of clinical research in the NHS
Desirable
25. Experience of conducting own research
26. Experience of working in an academic setting understanding the drivers associated with academic research.
27. Understanding of the national cancer research landscape and key research organisations
28. Experience of preparing reports/information for presentation to Clinicians, Senior NHS Staff and Welsh Government.

39. Able to meet the frequent travel needs of the post, within a geographical area.
40. The post holder will be required to travel to any location as required by the organisation which may be remote and distant and may mean occasional overnight stays away from home.
41. Able to work hours flexibly, including shift work as required for the needs of the service.
42. Ability to contribute to an on-call rota, as required.
