Job Title: Principal Engineer- Structural Engineering (Hull & Outfit)
Salary: up to £57,500 per annum dependent upon experience
Location: Barrow in Furness
We currently have a vacancy to join one of the world's leading, global defence, security and aerospace companies as a Principal Engineer- Structural Engineering (Hull & Outfit). The role will be based in Barrow in Furness but offers the opportunity for hybrid working and flexible working hours. Individual circumstances can be discussed.
As a Principal Engineer, you will be working in a dual function team (design and engineers) consisting of 14 people at various levels of seniority. The team is responsible for engineering assessments of the designs in support of build.
Main Responsibilities:
1. Analysis of complex steel structures utilising Eurocodes, British Standards and company standards, to support submarine build.
2. Utilise knowledge of specific regulations & requirements beyond that used within the business i.e., LOLER, codes of compliance, weld specifications, geometric tolerance.
3. Responsible for utilising computer based analytical techniques including finite element analysis, CAD modelling and engineering schematics (Abaqus, S-Frame).
4. Support the manufacturing, assembly, lifting, handling, and installation processes.
5. Utilise knowledge of the facility and site restrictions applicable to the shipping, handling, alignment and installation of hull units, large equipment, and structures.
6. Support towards production of concept drawings, layouts, and other technical outputs consistent with contractual requirements to meet target dates and budget demands.
7. Responsibility for approvals, checking analysis and outputs.

About You:
Essential:
1. Engineering Degree BEng/MEng or equivalent / OR HND with extensive years' experience.
2. Expertise in structural steel analysis.
3. Good understanding of mechanical engineering, structural steelwork, knowledge of lifting handling and LOLER.
4. Working knowledge of ABAQUS (Software) Foran, MathCAD and excel.
5. Previous knowledge in a production environment - experience in a marine production environment advantageous.
Desirable:
1. Previous experience in shipbuilding, offshore, civil industries.
2. Chartered Engineer.
