We seek a qualified and experienced vehicle technician within our Thornton Garage to carry out safety inspections and vehicle repairs. We operate a wide range of vehicles, including vans, pick-ups, tippers, refuse lorries, hiabs, etc. We are looking for a technician for 8 weeks to be based in our Thornton Garage.
Job Purpose:
Assisting to provide an efficient fleet facility and to maintain all motor vehicles and plant to a required standard by Pembrokeshire County Council (PCC) in a prompt and effective manner.
Principal duties and responsibilities:
1. Undertake the maintenance and repair on a full range of heavy commercial, light commercial and specialist plant in accordance with PCC Policy and Standards, Operator Licence and Department for Transport standards.
2. Respond to breakdowns and undertake recoveries at the roadside or other locations as operationally required according to PCC Policy.
3. To deal with the preparation and presentation of vehicles to nominated MOT test stations.
4. To provide key support outside of standard operational hours by participating in a standby rota
5. To steam clean vehicles/parts as operationally required, ensuring the workshop is kept tidy and clean.
6. To undertake any other duties as may be reasonably required.

Impact and Advising: Decision making, Planning requirements and Procedural context:
1. To ensure that vehicles and plant are maintained in a safe manner according to all relevant health and safety regulations, utilising risk assessments where required.
2. Ensure all statutory and associated documentation is completed to the prescribed standard in accordance with workshop demands.
3. To professionally advice on vehicle safety, promoting best practice across the team.
Person specification – Qualifications, Knowledge, Experience & Skills:
1. Must hold a current drivers licence
2. Qualified to a City and Guilds Standard or equivalent
3. Minimum 3 years’ experience as a qualified vehicle fitter
4. Hold a HGV / PSV driving licence
5. Hydraulic system repair skills
6. Electrical and electronic system repair and maintenance skills
7. Pneumatic system repair and maintenance skills
8. Fault diagnostic abilities
9. Qualified MOT tester Class 4,5 and 7
10. Will need to work well within a team, as well as on own initiative
