Job Summary
The arts offer at WEST is wide-ranging and includes visual arts, music, media, dance, and drama. As a member of the Arts Team, you will be key in ensuring young people have access to an exciting and creative arts programme that will be challenging, stimulating, fun, engaging, and developmental.
Job Description
You will be involved in teaching the fundamentals of a single or range of arts activities, enabling young people to explore their creativity and grow their skills. Within the arts team, we are looking for a range of talented arts youth workers with a diverse set of skills and expertise, who are also passionate about working with young people.
Ideally, you will have experience delivering one or more of the following arts:
1. Musical Theatre including Dance, Drama, Singing, and Performing Arts
2. Any style of dance and performance art including but not limited to Bhangra, Ballet, Ballroom, Jazz, Tap, Acro, Modern, Contemporary, Hip Hop, Street, Musical Theatre, Irish Dancing, Improv, Samba, Bachata, Salsa, Rumba, Reggaeton, Breaking, K-Pop, Lyrical
3. Devising and choreographing
Please note that to be successful, you do not need to be proficient in every area or type of dance; we are interested in seeing the skills and experience you can bring to WEST!
Youth workers plan and deliver high quality youth work that supports young people in their personal, social, and educational development. The role will require you to work with Juniors (8 - 12 yrs) and/or Seniors (13 - 19 yrs) and/or Beyond (members with additional needs up to 25 yrs).
Paid Monthly
Contracted Hours: From 4.5hrs up to 13.5hrs per week based on your availability.
Job Requirements
* Experience of working with groups of young people aged 8 to 19, or up to aged 25 with a disability.
* Experience of delivering arts sessions to young people.
* Experience of team working and working alongside volunteers.
* Experience in one or more arts medium.
* Experience of delivering events, displays, and performances.
* Experience of working with young people from diverse backgrounds and with challenging needs.
* Ability to deliver high quality arts programmes with young people who face social exclusion, disadvantage, and disaffection and manage such a group.
* Able to work as part of a team and under own initiative.
* Able to plan and evaluate the programme of activities, including production of session plans and evaluations.
* Able to communicate effectively with young people, parents, team members, and members of the public.
* Ability to engage and build positive relationships with young people.
Job Responsibilities
* Together with the Junior Club Manager, Senior Club Manager, and our Arts Coordinator, develop and implement an Arts programme that is exciting, challenging, and ever-changing.
* To deliver arts activities to young people ranging from music production to fashion and design to graffiti.
* To listen to young people's ideas and create a seasonal arts programme.
* To work directly with young people to develop their social skills. The role is 100% face-to-face delivery with young people.
* To directly deliver a high-quality programme of activity that is exciting, safe, varied, innovative, developmental, and directly responds to the diverse needs, concerns, and interests of our members.
* To have great energy to establish positive relationships with young people and the wider youth work team and visitors to the Youth Zone.
* To respond to the needs of the young people through activities and project work.
