Job Title: Yard Chargehand

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Yard Chargehand to join our client’s busy factory team in Braintree. This role is vital in ensuring the efficient preparation of steelwork for various bespoke engineering projects.
The Yard Chargehand will oversee a small team, ensuring tasks are completed on time while maintaining high safety and quality standards. This is a hands-on, outdoor role requiring strong organisational skills and the ability to lead by example.
Key Responsibilities:
* Maintain a clean, organized, and safe yard environment.
* Load and unload materials from lorries and trailers.
* Plan and prioritise daily yard operations, ensuring resources (manpower, materials, and equipment) are available.
* Supervise and guide the yard team, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and accurately.
* Conduct quality checks to ensure all work meets required standards.
* Operate yard equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks.
* Monitor stock levels and perform regular stock takes, addressing any variances.
* Report any incidents, damages, or issues promptly.
* Build strong working relationships across the business to deliver first-class service.
Person Specification:
Qualifications
* GCSE or equivalent
* Management experience (desirable)
* Understanding of CAD drawings (desirable)
Experience
* Previous experience in a similar role
* Ability to work unsupervised
* Physically capable of lifting safely
Skills
* Competent operating yard equipment, including forklifts and pallet jacks
