Control System Engineer - 3 months - remote with occasional site visits (Southampton) which are expensed - GBP450-500 per day outside IR35
Our client is seeking a control system engineer to assist with the development of new software capabilities to enable over-the-horizon operation of subsea vehicles and offshore equipment. Working in the Control team within the Engineering department and reporting to the Lead Robotic Payload Technologist, your focus will be on the control of robotic equipment.
What will you do:
1. Be able to work in a small, fast-paced team
2. Will be trained up on the different software control systems running uncrewed vessels to be able to make resilient software design decisions
3. Ability to build, test and deploy software
4. Develop interface adapters and C++ programs
5. Design, specify, develop and document software solutions
6. Follow software development practices and document developments effectively
7. Liaise with OEMs, other vendors, and operational users to aid development and rectify software issues
8. Documentation of code and procedures for use by the operational team
9. Participate in peer code review
Who you are:
1. 3+ years' engineering experience in a suitable field
2. Software development experience (C++)
3. Version control with Git
4. Networking experience
5. Experience with robotic control systems
6. Ability to plan and estimate development tasks (ideally within an Agile framework)
Desirable:
1. Experience with QT
2. Experience with Jira and Confluence
3. Marine survey systems such as GNSS, inertial navigation, subsea positioning systems
4. Satellite, telephony, and digital radio systems
5. Experience with VMs
6. Experience with PLCs/other industrial controllers
7. Experience with Bitbucket/Github
