Job Title: HGV Chargehand Location: Southall Salary: £59,000 - £60,000 per annum Overtime The HGV Chargehand is responsible for supervising and coordinating a team of technicians and mechanics who maintain and repair Public Service Vehicles. This role involves ensuring that vehicles are serviced and repaired to the highest standards, managing the workshop operations, and ensuring health and safety compliance in the workplace. The HGV Technician plays a key role in maintaining the reliability and safety of the public transportation system. What you'll do as the HGV Chargehand: Routine servicing, repair and maintenance of the PSV Fleet to highest DVSA standards Perform repairs on bus engines, brakes, electrical systems, air-conditioning, and other mechanical components. Be on hand to answer any Technician queries Ensure that all buses are in line with the manufacturer’s maintenance guidelines Use diagnostic tools to assess engine performance, brakes, transmission, electrical systems, and other vital components. Provide on-site services including breakdown recovery, diagnostics, and repairs. Be available for urgent repairs as required, ensuring timely responses to minimize vehicle downtime.What you'll need to have as HGV Chargehand: NVQ level 3, City & Guilds, Time Served or equivalent qualifications in HGV / PSV Maintenance Experience of modern CAN bus electrical systems and OEM diagnostic systems Full UK Driving licence PCV Licence – Desirable. If you don’t have one, we will train you. Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills Fully conversant with the safe operation of workshop equipment and the overhaul and repair of vehicle electrical systems.
