We are looking for a Clinical Nurse Specialist (Learning Disabilities and Autism) to join our growing Safeguarding Department at Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust (BWC). We support flexible working and welcome applications from those seeking full time or part time hours, Monday to Friday. This is a fixed term position until January 2026. It could also be offered as a secondment opportunity if you are a current NHS employee, subject to agreement by your line manager.
As part of our Learning Disability and Autism Liaison (LDA) team, you will be able to make a tangible difference for our children, young people, and women with learning disabilities and/or autism. Working within a collaborative and supportive multi-disciplinary team, including clinical psychologists, liaison psychiatrists, and specialist nurses to help shape holistic, person-centred care at Birmingham Children's Hospital and provide essential support for women accessing services at Birmingham Women's Hospital.
Main duties of the job
As a Clinical Nurse Specialist, you'll bring expertise in supporting children, young people, and adults with complex needs, acting as a visible leader in the field of Learning Disabilities and Autism.
The role will provide effective management of the learning disability pathway caseload, to ensure that recovery-focused, specialist health interventions are delivered effectively.

Qualifications
Essential
* Nursing Qualification RLDN
* Evidence of relevant post basic education to degree level or Specialist qualification in a relevant area of practice.
* Teaching/mentoring qualification
Desirable
* Qualifications in child & adolescent psychiatric nursing
Knowledge and Nature of Experience
Essential
* Experience of child protection and teaching and assessing.
* Able to demonstrate significant post registration experience in learning disability/psychiatric care at band 6 level or above.
* The ability to use expert communication skills effectively and sensitively with children of all abilities/ages and families/carers.
* A sound knowledge of psychological, emotional and social needs of children and young people.
Desirable
* Experience of working with Minority ethnic Children and young people.
Analytical and Judgement Skills
Desirable
* Participate in local and national LD death reviews.
* Analyse information as part of LD death reviews and make recommendations, as appropriate, both locally and nationally.
Professional/Managerial/Specialist Knowledge
Essential
* Attend and participate in LeDer forums.
* Report deaths of LD patients.
* Able to use IT equipment to produce reports.
Desirable
* Trained in LeDer and Child Death Review.
