The post holder must be of a vigilant disposition but sympathetic to the needs of families and patients. The post holder must have the ability to work with colleagues from a variety of disciplines. The post holder will work across a shift pattern for Night Reception and will be professional in approach and appearance, willing to help, and able to use initiative as well as carry out small maintenance tasks at night. The post holder will be expected to participate in a rota covering both weekdays and the weekend and will be expected to be flexible and adaptable. As a driver, it is essential all driving is carried out in a responsible way and in accordance with traffic law. Caring responsibilities for patients are delivered to the highest standard. Driving convictions must be disclosed immediately to the Hospice Administrator. For infection control, the post holder will carry out some high touch point cleaning at the commencement of every shift.
Duties and Responsibilities
The post holder regularly works without supervision. The role of the Evening/Night Receptionist/Driver is to maintain a state of vigilance and security in the Hospice and to welcome visitors arriving at the Hospice in a professional manner, also to assist with the care of patients when driving the Hospice ambulance/minibus.
Night Security
1. To maintain a high level of security and vigilance in all areas of the Hospice.
2. To ensure all external doors and entrances are locked securely at night (after day shift staff leaves).
3. To observe security system/cameras for any possible intruders or late-night visitors for patients.
4. To be efficient, courteous and professional in the reception of visitors.
5. At commencement of duty, the Evening/Night Receptionist/Driver should check all additional outbuildings to ensure they are locked and alarmed securely.
6. At regular intervals throughout the night, the Hospice should be checked internally for any problems arising e.g. fire, intruders, visitors in areas where they should not be, light bulbs missing or any potential health/safety risks.
7. To assist Night Nursing Staff as and when required e.g. moving chairs / boxes etc, in line with moving and handling regulations.
8. To liaise with emergency services as required e.g. notify police of intruders to grounds, open gates in the event of fire to allow fire services entry.
9. To be aware of all emergency shutdown procedures relating to gas, electricity and water.
10. To ensure awareness of location of plant rooms, gas, water and electricity mains.
11. To be alert to any changes in procedure and be aware of whom to contact for assistance in an emergency or in the event of major faults in systems arising.
12. To ensure there is no breach of confidentiality relating to visitors, patients, relatives or others attending the Hospice.
