Looking for a passionate Occupational Therapist who wants to work in a supportive and progressive Community Learning Disability Team.
The team comprises Nurses, Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists, and Physiotherapists who are all aiming to carry out specialist assessments and interventions, adapting this to meet the different needs of the people they are working with.
You will be joining other OTs, both within the team and also across the LD services within the Trust, focused on providing evidence-based input, especially around grading and adapting someone's development in skills and the importance of meaningful activities to aid quality of life and provide purpose for day-to-day living. This will be supported by engagement and participation in LD OT service-wide study days and AHP events run both within CWP and externally.
The team is always looking at how best to provide the most effective service for people who access it, including carrying out QI projects and research. There are also links with CANDDID to support future research projects. There is an opportunity to identify areas of specialism/interest within OT that the team would want to support developing further.
The team works across two bases, one in Chester and one in Winsford, and the designated base can be agreed with the successful applicant.
Responsibilities include:
1. Working using a high level of expertise within the multidisciplinary team, managing a caseload of service users, including those with varying severity of learning disabilities and other conditions.
2. Providing core occupational therapy interventions that enable individuals to work towards a valued lifestyle and aim for optimum functional ability, focusing on meaningful occupation and its impact on behavior and function for service users.
3. Providing specialist advice to other team members and other agencies.
4. Carrying out sensory processing assessments and providing interventions and recommendations to service users, family/carers, and support staff to optimize their sensory input.
5. Ensuring that up-to-date electronic records are maintained in accordance with professional and Trust standards.
6. Supporting the completion of general team work, including initial assessments, duty, and assessments/interventions that are not profession-specific, and providing guidance to others in the team and new colleagues when they join.
