Due to business growth, we are looking to recruit for a Controls/Software Engineer for a leading engineering company in Bradford.
The main purpose of the role is to provide software engineering design and support functions to the business for a variety of automation projects for special purpose machinery projects. Candidates will also be required to carry out hands-on commissioning of systems including handover to clients.
Candidate will ideally be HNC/HND Qualified in a relevant engineering discipline with exposure to programming of PLCs (Siemens, Allen Bradley, Omron) and HMI software. Experience with Robotics (ABB/Omron/Yaskawa) and Vision Systems (Keyence/Cognex) is also advantageous.
Candidates MUST have experience working on Special Purpose Automated Systems to be considered for this role. Experience in FMCG Sites is Desirable.
Hours: Monday – Friday 8AM – 4.30PM
Key Responsibilities:
1. Working with the Electrical design team to develop systems from an initial stage including component specification to business and customer requirements.
2. Design and develop software solutions for complex and large scale production systems.
3. Troubleshoot and support existing installed systems.
4. Ensure schedules are understood and workload is managed to meet objectives.
5. Coordinating with Mechanical design team to ensure a deliverable solution is created to customer requirements.
6. Implement company and external standards.
7. Understanding of Machine safety principles.
8. Power up and configuration of hardware, checking quality of system matches company standards.
9. Ensuring machine stands up to rigorous testing leading to a successful FAT & SAT.
10. Working closely with Mechanical and Electrical assemblers/technicians during various stages of assembly and development of systems.
Qualifications & Skills:
1. HNC/HND qualified in a relevant engineering discipline.
2. Experience in programming PLC systems (Allen-Bradley, Omron, Siemens etc).
3. Creating user-friendly HMI interfaces.
4. Proficient in understanding and interpreting Electrical and Mechanical drawings.
5. Knowledge of integrating motion control/actuators.
6. Experience in delivering solutions to technical problems.
7. Experience in creating and maintaining technical documents.
8. Experience of technical projects including working to tight timescales throughout the project life cycle.
9. Ability to provide quality information within deadlines.
10. Team-player and ability to work on own initiative.
11. Strong PC Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Outlook).
12. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
13. Desired – experience with Robot programming (ABB, Omron, Yaskawa).
14. Desired – experience using and setting up vision systems (Keyence, Cognex).
