Abatec are excited to partner with our client, a leading global infrastructure contractor who play a major role in the UK’s nuclear industry. At Sizewell C, as part of the Civils Work Alliance, our client is responsible for delivering early stage enabling works at the nuclear new-build site. They are recruiting for a highly skilled and experienced Senior Commercial Manager, to oversee the financial and commercial aspects of the Ground Engineering works at Sizewell C.
With hybrid working based in London or Sizewell C, Suffolk, this position offers flexibility while still being closely tied to the project’s core activities. It is a great opportunity for someone with expertise in commercial management and experience in large-scale infrastructure projects, who can offer a blend of strategic leadership and hands on management.
As a Senior Commercial Manager, you will:
* Have understanding of disputes resolution techniques, including various options, structures, and involvement of experts.
* Have the ability to apply relevant legislation and liaise effectively with legal experts to resolve issues.
* Oversee the preparation of estimates and tender submissions, interpreting specifications, preambles, and ensuring the quality and accuracy of all submissions.
* Review tenders and cost data to ensure completeness and competitive pricing.
* Represent the financial and contractual interests of the project in progress meetings with the employer/client, ensuring that all commercial aspects are effectively communicated and addressed.
* Coordinate activities across buying, accounts, production control/planning, and supply chain management, ensuring smooth procurement processes and efficient resource utilization.
* Establish and manage client supply chain requirements, advising on alternative contract and procurement arrangements.
* Lead the management and reporting of commercial risks and opportunities, taking appropriate actions to mitigate or capitalize on them.
* Manage disallowed costs and ensure these are effectively communicated and addressed.
* Provide commercial input into Buildability and Value Engineering reviews, ensuring that cost-saving measures and practical solutions are considered.
* Lead the commercial team in identifying and addressing programme issues, ensuring timely action and communication.
* Prepare and present the monthly Commercial Valuation Report (CVR) and other associated commercial reports to senior leadership.
* Provide feedback of commercial data to Planning, Estimating, Marketing, and Sales teams to support decision-making.
* Lead commercial discussions with customers and key stakeholders, ensuring alignment on objectives and expectations.
* Formulate and manage plans for resource procurement, ensuring timely and cost-effective acquisition of necessary resources.
Our client requires a Senior Commercial Manager with:
* Degree qualification in Quantity Surveying or similar.
* Membership or Fellowship of RICS, ICES or CIOB (or working towards)
* CSCS Card (Professional Qualified Person)
* Experience of working for a Civil Engineering contractor.
* Experience working on Major Projects.
* Excellent communication skills.
* A thorough understanding of NEC form of contracts.
* Commercial and contractual knowledge.
* A valid UK Driving Licence.
Salary and benefits include:
* £90,000 - £110,000 per annum DOE
* Discretionary bonus up to 20%
* Company car or car allowance
