We are seeking a knowledgeable and detail-oriented Clerk to provide expert support to UK schools on a casual, on-call basis. The ideal candidate will assist school governing bodies with compliance, policy development, meeting facilitation, and strategic planning, ensuring adherence to relevant laws and regulations. This position is remote and requires flexibility to work varied hours as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
* Advise school governing bodies on governance best practices and statutory requirements.
* Assist in the development, review, and implementation of school policies and procedures.
* Facilitate and coordinate governance meetings, including preparing agendas, distributing papers, and taking minutes.
* Ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements related to school governance.
* Provide training and development for governors and trustees on their roles and responsibilities.
* Support the governing body in strategic planning and decision-making processes.
* Maintain up-to-date records of governance documents, including minutes, policies, and action plans.
* Conduct governance audits and risk assessments, providing recommendations for improvement.
* Stay informed about changes in education legislation and governance practices, sharing relevant updates with the governing body.
* Perform other governance-related duties as assigned by the Head of Governance or School Governing Body.
Key Attributes:
* Bachelor's degree in education, law, public administration, or a related field; additional governance qualifications (e.g., NGA, ICSA) preferred.
* Proven experience in a governance role, ideally within an educational setting.
* Strong understanding of UK education legislation and governance requirements.
* Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
* Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
* Proficiency in using digital tools and platforms for remote work and virtual meetings.
* Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and professionalism.
* Flexibility to be available on short notice and work varied hours, including evenings for meetings.
* Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people.
* Ability to work from home with access to a reliable internet connection.
* Ability to attend virtual meetings using video conferencing software.
Working Pattern:
* Work is performed from home, with occasional travel to schools for in-person meetings if required.
