Complex Needs Support Worker - Newcastle - Education and Training
Milk Education is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, inspiring, and skilled Complex Needs Support Assistant to work in one of our partner SEND Schools in Newcastle. You will need to be flexible, energetic, and enthusiastic about working with children who have complex needs and/or Autism. Responsibilities/Duties:
1. Assist with the planning of learning activities by identifying and preparing resources required to support lesson plans and learning outcomes.
2. Preparation of materials/equipment (e.g. books, pencils, art supplies, games, AVA equipment) and preparing and clearing up activities with the pupils.
3. Maintain classroom resources and designated areas.
4. Supervise individual or small groups of pupils undertaking teacher-led learning activities by coordinating and explaining basic instructions for the activity, adjusting activities within the scope of the lesson plan and learning outcomes in response to pupils’ learning.
5. Assist pupil achievement by monitoring learning against learning outcomes and informing the teacher of progress.
6. Assist pupils to develop their independence.
7. Support the use of IT as a tool to enable learning.
Key Accountabilities:
1. Work with individuals or groups of children, as directed by the class teacher and/or SENCo, to support subjects and learning across the whole curriculum (this may include the supervision of a classroom for periods of time).
2. Establish supportive, caring, and secure relationships with the child/children, promoting respect, self-esteem, and a positive, inclusive whole school ethos.
3. Develop knowledge and understanding of specific academic, physical, and emotional/behavioural needs of individuals and groups of children and respond to them effectively.
4. Support class teachers to design, create, and produce learning activities, materials, and resources to support aspects of the curriculum or particular learning outcomes, and to assist and support the children in using them.
5. Help, support, and motivate the children, clarifying instructions, encouraging independent learning and behaviour, and enabling learning targets and outcomes.
