Position Description
Carrington Power Station comprises a 2 x 440 MW Combined Cycle Gas Turbine’s (CCGT’s) and is located near Manchester. The Operations Shift Technician is responsible for the safe, efficient and reliable operation of the generation and associated auxiliary plant and for achieving the target commercial dispatch of the power plant in accordance with contractual obligations.
This is an opportunity for ambitious, high performing candidates to work in a dynamic, rewarding and achievement focused environment. The Shift Operations Technician is responsible for operating the combined cycle plant and its auxiliaries in the production of electricity in a safe and efficient manner. The Operations Technician will be required to operate as an Authorised Person within the plant safety rules.
They will be a team player and self-starter with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
1. Start up, shut-down and operation of Power Stations in accordance with relevant legislation, site procedures and best practice standards.
2. Monitor plant performance and alarms to ensure safe and efficient delivery of production targets and protection of plant integrity.
3. Monitoring equipment, diagnosing equipment problems and reporting abnormal conditions for corrective action using the work management system.
4. Plant walkdowns for routine monitoring, operations and fault response.
5. Carry out first line maintenance and preventative maintenance routines to maintain plant availability and reliability.
6. Maintain competencies as specified to meet role requirements.
7. Work flexibly to meet changing operational and business requirements.
8. Carrying out project work and activities as directed.
9. Fulfil allocated role within the ESB Station Safety Rules.
10. Compliance with safety and environmental obligations.
11. Maintaining a shift operations record (log) and submitting operations reports as directed.
12. Assisting in the development and implementation of procedures and systems for plant operations, testing and related activities.
13. Liaise effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
• Experience of Power Stations operations or similar heavy process engineering.
Qualifications
* A recognised craft qualification in an engineering discipline or 3 years recent experience and competence in process plant operations.
