The selected candidate will join the UK-based L-Band Centre of Excellence, contributing to the development of advanced L-Band Terminal solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Senior Director of the L-Band Centre of Excellence, the Engineering Manager will lead the engineering team, ensuring tasks are completed within the agreed cost, schedule, performance, and quality metrics. This role involves collaboration with senior leadership, project management teams, consultants in the UK, and engineering teams at global headquarters to deliver solutions for R&D and mass production.
The Engineering Manager will uphold company policies and processes, drive high-quality outcomes, and lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and quality.
Responsibilities will cover the entire lifecycle of hardware and software development, including:
* Understanding customer needs and system requirements.
* Managing systems engineering, design, development, integration, and production handover.
* Ensuring all engineering activities are managed to completion.
In addition to core L-Band engineering responsibilities, this role will also focus on driving solutions and systems engineering efforts for flat-panel terminals used in OneWeb systems. This includes designing end-to-end system architectures aligned with customer requirements and strategic goals. The role requires close collaboration across product management, sales, and R&D teams to integrate flat-panel antennas into customer ecosystems, ensuring optimal performance and satisfaction.

* Collaborate with the Project Manager to define the hardware/software development cycle consistent with overall project schedules.
* Adapt engineering environments, tools, and practices to meet project requirements.
* Assign responsibilities to team members, support task execution, and review deliverables.
* Contribute to product function/interface specification and architectural definitions.
* Use best practices and engineering expertise to address complex technical challenges.
* Conduct research into new technologies to develop innovative solutions within program constraints.
* Act as a technical mentor to less experienced colleagues.
* Ensure compliance with certification and qualification standards for satellite communication products.
* Maintain a comprehensive understanding of satellite communication systems, technologies, regulations, and applications.
* Apply knowledge of RF, hardware, mechanical design, and software development to drive project success.
Management Responsibilities:
* Lead cross-functional teams and manage technical contributors.
* Deliver clear plans, monitor progress, and provide transparency on project status.
* Stay informed about industry standards and share key developments with the team.
* Guide strategic direction through research, planning, and execution.
Experience and Skills
Technical Expertise:
* Proven experience in systems, hardware, or electronics engineering in highly regulated environments.
* Hands-on experience in technical leadership of teams or projects.
* Familiarity with the engineering development lifecycle, including DDQS methodologies or equivalent approaches.
* Knowledge of satellite communication systems (e.g., Inmarsat, Iridium) is an advantage.
* Familiarity with agile project tracking tools (e.g., Jira) is desirable.
Management and Communication Skills:
* Strong team leadership and collaboration capabilities.
* Skilled in presenting complex technical topics and building consensus.
* Client-focused with excellent interpersonal and engagement skills.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering.
* 10–15 years of relevant experience.
