Kew House School was established in the conviction that there exists an opportunity for a different kind of independent secondary school in London – academically demanding but with a forward-thinking approach to selection criteria, the flexibility of the curriculum, the shape of the school day, and recognition of creativity and talent. A character-selective school, we pride ourselves on the support and care we extend to our 600 pupils whilst striving to add value to their success in all fields of academia, sport, and creativity. Kew House has successfully grown over ten years since its foundation and was recently awarded the ISI “Excellent” grading.
Facilities
The buildings are equipped with modern facilities with interactive smartboards and access to iPads. We have digital subscriptions to Active Teach and Active Learn in all languages for KS3 and KS4, as well as Boost for KS5.
Curriculum
Our curriculum starts with all pupils in Year 7 learning Spanish for 90 minutes once a week alongside either French, German, or Latin on a half-termly carousel. At the end of Year 7, pupils choose either French or German to study in Year 8 and Latin is also offered. At the end of Year 8, pupils are able to choose to study one or two languages at GCSE. Currently, pupils can study A Levels in French, Spanish, and Latin. The school’s aim is to provide a rich and broad education to all pupils, whatever their specialism. Whilst we aim to achieve the highest academic results for each pupil, we do not serve as an examination “factory”.
Extra-Curricular
The MFL Department is central to the school’s extra-curricular provision, with a wide range of trips and visits, including a German exchange and French and Spanish trips abroad. We provide after-school support at GCSE and have a fast-track programme to cater for native speakers. We run numerous extra-curricular activities and events throughout the year, including a European Café, outside theatre shows, and trips to the BFI, Institut français, and Instituto Cervantes.
