An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Design Engineer to join our Transportation team in Ipswich. In this role, you will take the lead in managing a team to carry out investigations, feasibility studies, and both preliminary and detailed designs for a range of highway improvement and maintenance schemes for local authorities. The position involves collaboration with internal and external commissioners, as well as working closely with operations teams and supply chain partners through Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) to successfully deliver highway projects.
Location: Ipswich - some remote working available, with travel to the office required
Contract: Permanent Fulltime
Salary: £42,500 - £47,500 per annum + private healthcare + benefits
Responsibilities
* Manage local highway authority maintenance improvement schemes from drainage and footway improvements to new road signs, traffic regulation order schemes, roundabout designs, junction improvements, and public realm improvements, integrated with resolution of pre-existing maintenance needs.
* Manage the maintenance schemes from any aspect of hard landscaping, including the management and scheduling of road closure requests for reactive, minor planned, and general maintenance works.
* Ensure a coordinated approach between Kier and any external commissioners in the preparation of designs and works instigation for adherence to agreed programme delivery dates.
* Prepare technical designs, drawings, documents, specifications, and other works information for infrastructure operations, assisting with the development of associated project management plans.
* Undertake the responsibilities of ‘Principal Designer' or ‘Designer' by generating designer risk assessments and preparing pre-construction information in accordance with the CDM Regulations 2015 for construction works, as well as the production of health and safety files.
* Control the scheme design programme and overall scheme budget for design and construction of smaller schemes.
What are we looking for?
* Proven experience of successfully delivering a range of complex projects in local highways engineering, highways design, or similar technical disciplines.
* Good technical knowledge and awareness of highways design and maintenance techniques, including the appropriate application of the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges.
* Understanding of environmental legislation and recycling and how it affects maintenance and improvement schemes.
