Applications are invited for a Consultant Urological Surgeon with a Specialist Interest in Robotic Upper Tract Surgery. This is a full-time post comprising of 10 programmed activities (PAs).
The Urology Service provides all urological activity – including all sub-specialties - for Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, and is a tertiary referral centre for cancer, andrology, stones and female urology.
We are the tertiary referral centre for upper tract malignancy for the south of the East Midlands, and receive referrals for nephron-sparing surgery from Northampton, Kettering, Lincoln and Boston hospitals. Highly complex partial nephrectomy cases and renal tumours involving the IVC are referred from elsewhere in the East Midlands and beyond.
We have a fully developed robotic programme for partial nephrectomy (retro- and transperitoneal), radical nephrectomy, nephroureterectomy and pyeloplasty. Robotic prostatectomy and robotic cystectomy with intracorporeal diversion (including orthotopic reconstruction) are also routinely performed.
The Trust presently has 2 Da Vinci Xi robotic platforms, with one being located at Leicester General Hospital and predominantly used by urology. There are advanced plans to expand the number of robotic systems within the Trust. We have the facility for intraoperative USS via a drop-in probe.
