An opportunity has arisen, for an 8b psychological practitioner to lead the Barts Health NHS Trust adult diabetes psychology service, due to the current post holder going on maternity leave. The post is an interesting and varied one, which includes holding a specialist caseload, MDT working, consultation, training, supervision, service development and evaluation.
We are looking for an experienced and motivated practitioner psychologist with skills in working with people with Type 1 & 2 diabetes, or substantial experience of working in health psychology and a strong interest in the field of diabetes.
The adult diabetes psychology service provides a range of services; working with people with type 1 diabetes and poorly controlled type 2 diabetes in the specialist Community Diabetes Service in Tower Hamlets. The role also involves providing consultation to diabetes clinics located in the boroughs of Newham and Waltham Forest and supporting a psychologist working in the Young Adult Diabetes Service.
The post holder will be supported professionally by a Consultant Clinical Psychologist and appropriate clinical supervision will be confirmed, depending on the needs of the individual practitioner.
The post holder will be a key member of the friendly and dynamic Clinical Health Psychology team as well as the wider network of health psychology services across Barts Health NHS Trust.
Main duties of the job
At The Diabetes Centre, Mile End Hospital, to take the lead on providing a psychology service to people with Type 1 Diabetes, young adults and Type 2 Diabetes, and to their carers and family as appropriate.
To provide a comprehensive psychology assessment and intervention service to patients of the diabetes multi-disciplinary clinics at Barts Health Trust with complex, severe and/or enduring mental health difficulties.
To provide psychological advice, consultation and support to the wider team; including specialist dietitians, nurses and doctors.
To work with the wider diabetes care pathway across primary care and mental health services in the boroughs served by Barts Health NHS Trust (Tower Hamlets, Newham & Waltham Forest) to provide joined up and effective psychological care to people with Diabetes locally.
To liaise with stake holders and strategic partners to develop clear and effective mental health and well-being pathways for people with diabetes in the areas served by Barts Health NHS Trust (Tower Hamlets, Newham & Waltham Forest). To take the lead on developing new ways of working; which could include group based alongside individual psychological interventions.
To provide clinical and professional support to qualified practitioner psychologists, Trainee Clinical and Counselling Psychologists and other mental health and psychosocial clinicians. Where appropriate, to act as deputy for the Clinical Health Psychology professional lead and Diabetes Service Lead.
The scope of the role will depend upon the amount of wte available on the part of the successful applicant.

Essential criteria
1. Significant supervised psychology practice experience in NHS or equivalent by a suitably qualified practitioner psychologist.
2. Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups
3. Ability to demonstrate significant post-doctoral specialist experience in working in the field of health psychology.
4. Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team.
5. Extended involvement in teaching, training and/or professional and clinical supervision.
Desirable criteria
6. Experience of recruitment and line management of staff.
7. Experience of supervising the psychological practice of other professions.
8. Experience of working as a practitioner psychologist in diabetes management
9. Experience in gathering, collating and reporting on key performance indicators to commissioners

10. Doctoral level knowledge of research design and methodology.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
17. Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical psychology (or its equivalent) as accredited by the BPS or HCPC, including specifically models of psychopathology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology.
18. Registration with the HCPC as a practitioner psychologist
19. Training in clinical practice supervision.
