About the Role:
We are seeking a talented and detail-oriented Solar Designer to join our growing team. As a Solar Designer, you will play a crucial role in designing and developing cutting-edge solar PV systems, contributing directly to our mission of expanding renewable energy adoption. You will be responsible for creating detailed site layouts, electrical schematics, and system specifications, ensuring optimal performance, compliance, and client satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Design and develop solar photovoltaic (PV) system layouts using industry-standard software.
2. Conduct thorough site evaluations, feasibility studies, and shading analysis to determine optimal solar potential.
3. Generate accurate electrical diagrams, single-line diagrams (SLDs), and wiring layouts for permitting and installation purposes.
4. Perform system performance calculations, energy production estimations, and efficiency metric analysis.
5. Ensure all designs comply with UK regulations, industry best practices, and relevant standards (e.g., MCS, IET Wiring Regulations).
6. Collaborate effectively with sales, engineering, installation, and project management teams to streamline project execution.
7. Contribute to the preparation of proposals, technical documentation, and bill of materials (BOMs).
8. Support the permitting and grid connection application processes with local authorities and Distribution Network Operators (DNOs).
9. Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in solar technology, materials, and industry trends within the UK market.
Qualifications & Skills:
1. Minimum 2-5 years of proven experience in solar PV system design within the UK.
2. Proficiency in relevant design software.
3. Solid understanding of electrical design principles, UK wiring regulations (BS7671), and grid connection requirements.
4. Experience with structural and electrical load calculations.
5. Familiarity with energy storage and hybrid solar systems is advantageous.
6. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and technical skills.
7. Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
8. MCS certification or similar recognised UK qualifications are desirable.
