Job Summary
We are looking to recruit a Principal Psychologist to provide leadership and specialist psychological provision to the adult community mental health teams in the Rhondda/Cynon/Taf area. The successful candidate will join a diverse and passionate team of psychologists working across the community teams in CTM. The successful candidate will provide management, support and mentoring to junior colleagues within the team. They in turn will be provided support and mentoring through the psychology leadership team as well as the lead consultant psychologist for CMHT's. The CMHT psychologists are currently engaged in an exciting period of service development where there are many opportunities to pursue projects you have an interest in and help shape the future of CMHT psychological services.
The CMHT psychology service is made up of clinical and counselling psychologists, CAAP and assistant psychologists. We have close links with both the clinical and counselling doctorate in South Wales and consistently have trainees on placement with us.
The wider CTM psychology service is going through a period of development aimed to foster good links and communication across specialities and the successful candidate will be part of the leadership team developing this vision. CTM is also developing a psychology professionals network where colleagues are able to connect with each other to support the development of specialist skills in both clinical and service development work.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be a senior clinical leader helping to provide timely, effective, modern, evidence based therapies delivered by a well trained and supervised multi-disciplinary workforce. They will themselves provide highly specialist psychological services within an assigned community mental health team (CMHT) and develop suitable models for increasing the capacity within CMHTs to offer systematic stepped care to people with complex needs who require psychological treatment as part of their recovery plan. They will supervise the work of less experienced psychologists or other professions. Thus their work will involve providing highly specialist interventions as well as developing fit for purpose psychological services within their assigned service areas. The postholder is expected to be research active and to contribute to our organisational status as a university health board.
The successful candidate will hold line management and clinical supervision responsibility for other psychologists within the team.
The post holder will work autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the service's policies and procedures.
